Abbreviations Glossary

Common abbreviations and terms used in Classic EverQuest. Essential reading for new players.

Items & Equipment

FBSS
Flowing Black Silk Sash — Haste belt from Lower Guk frenzied ghoul. One of the most coveted items in classic EQ.
JBoots
Journeyman's Boots — Speed boots from Najena/quest. Give permanent run speed increase.
CoF
Cloak of Flames — Cloak from Plane of Fear. Haste cloak — one of the best for melee.
BABS
Barbed Bone Shard Bow — Ranger/hybrid bow from Kunark.
SoW
Spirit of Wolf — Druid/Shaman buff that increases run speed. Also refers to the potion form.
Clarity
Clarity/Boon of the Clear Mind — Enchanter mana regeneration buff. Invaluable for all mana users.
Regen
Regeneration — Druid HP regeneration buff. Also refers to the Plane of Fear cloak effect.
Crack
Celerity / Clarity II — Higher level Enchanter mana regen buff.
KEI
Koadic's Endless Intellect — Enchanter mana regen buff, Kunark era.
DS
Damage Shield — Buff that causes damage to enemies that hit you. Wizard/Mage spell.
Invis
Invisibility — Spell that makes you invisible to most non-see-invis mobs.
Levi
Levitate — Spell that makes you float, preventing falling damage and certain mob aggro.
Snare
Snare — Spell that slows a mob's movement speed. Essential for kiting.
Root
Root — Spell that prevents a mob from moving. Used for pulling and soloing.
Mez
Mesmerize — Enchanter CC spell. Stops mob from attacking temporarily.
Stun
Stun — Temporarily stops a mob from acting. Clerics and Paladins have stun spells.
FD
Feign Death — Monk/Shadow Knight ability. Drops aggro by pretending to be dead.
EB
Enduring Breath — Spell/item that allows underwater breathing.
WR
Weight Reduction — Bags or items that reduce the weight of their contents.
BIS
Best in Slot — The best possible item for a given equipment slot.
Proc
Procedure/Programmed Random Occurrence — A weapon or item effect that triggers randomly on hits.
AC
Armor Class — Defense stat that reduces incoming melee damage.
HP
Hit Points — Your health pool. Reaching 0 means death.
MP/Mana
Mana Points — Resource pool for casting spells.

WAR
Warrior — Melee tank class.
CLR
Cleric — Primary healer class.
PAL
Paladin — Holy warrior hybrid.
RNG
Ranger — Nature warrior hybrid.
SHD
Shadow Knight — Dark warrior hybrid.
DRU
Druid — Nature caster/healer.
MNK
Monk — Unarmed melee DPS.
BRD
Bard — Song-based support.
ROG
Rogue — Stealth melee DPS.
SHM
Shaman — Tribal healer/buffer.
NEC
Necromancer — Death magic caster.
WIZ
Wizard — Pure damage caster.
MAG
Magician — Pet/summoner caster.
ENC
Enchanter — CC/buffer caster.
MT
Main Tank — The player tanking the primary mob in a group/raid.
MA
Main Assist — The player everyone assists to focus DPS on one target.
OT
Off Tank — Secondary tank handling additional mobs.
PL
Power Level — Having a high-level character help you gain XP quickly.
PuG
Pick-up Group — A group formed with strangers rather than guildmates.

East Commonlands — Primary trading hub in classic EQ. Where players go to buy/sell.
WC
West Commonlands — Zone adjacent to EC.
NK/SK/WK/EK
North/South/West/East Karana — The Karana plains zones.
NRo/SRo
North/South Desert of Ro — Desert zones south of Freeport.
GFay
Greater Faydark — Starting zone for elves. Contains Kelethin.
LFay
Lesser Faydark — Zone adjacent to Greater Faydark.
BB
Blackburrow — Gnoll dungeon. Popular 1-15 zone.
CB
Crushbone — Orc dungeon. Popular 8-18 zone.
LGuk/UGuk
Lower/Upper Guk — Undead froglok dungeons. Classic endgame zones.
MM
Mistmoore — Vampire castle. Good mid-level dungeon.
Unrest
Estate of Unrest — Undead mansion. Excellent mid-level dungeon.
Sol A/Sol B
Solusek's Eye / Nagafen's Lair — Fire caves and Lord Nagafen's lair.
PoF
Plane of Fear — Classic raid zone. Home of Cazic-Thule.
PoH
Plane of Hate — Classic raid zone. Home of Innoruuk.
PoSky
Plane of Sky — Classic raid zone. Island progression zone.
VP
Veeshan's Peak — Kunark endgame raid zone. Requires bloodstone key.
FoB
Field of Bone — Kunark newbie zone.
OT
Overthere — Kunark outdoor zone with sarnak outpost.
WW/WarsW
Warsliks Woods — Kunark outdoor zone.
HS/Charasis
Howling Stones — Kunark dungeon. Requires key.
Seb
Sebilis — Kunark endgame dungeon. Requires Trakanon tooth key.

Karnor's Castle — Kunark dungeon. Home of Venril Sathir.

City of Mist — Kunark undead dungeon.

Chardok — Kunark sarnak fortress.

Game Mechanics

XP/EXP
Experience Points — Points gained by killing mobs and completing quests. Used to level up.
ZEM
Zone Experience Modifier — Multiplier that increases XP in certain zones to encourage exploration.
Aggro
Aggression — When a mob targets and attacks you.
Adds
Additional Mobs — Extra mobs that join a fight unexpectedly.
Train
Training Mobs — Accidentally pulling many mobs through a zone, often wiping groups.
Kite
Kiting — Running from a mob while casting spells or shooting arrows at it.
Quad Kite
Quad Kiting — Druid technique of keeping 4 mobs snared and running in a circle, AoE nuking them.
Fear Kite
Fear Kiting — Using fear spell to make mob run, then nuking/DoTing it.
CR
Corpse Run — Returning to your corpse after death to retrieve your gear.
CoH
Call of the Hero — Wizard spell that teleports a group member to the caster.
Gate
Gate — Spell that teleports you back to your bind point.
Port/TP
Portal/Teleport — Druid or Wizard teleportation spells.
Evac
Evacuate — Druid/Wizard emergency zone exit spell.
Bind
Bind Affinity — Setting your resurrection point. Casters can bind others.
Rez
Resurrection — Cleric spell that brings a dead player back to life, restoring some XP.
Twink
Twinking — Equipping a low-level character with high-end gear they couldn't normally obtain.
Camp
Camp — Either logging out safely (/camp) or a specific spawn location players farm.
Ph
Placeholder — A common mob that spawns in place of a rare named mob.
Rare
Rare Spawn — A named mob that spawns infrequently, usually with better loot.
Faction
Faction Standing — Your reputation with NPC factions. Affects whether NPCs are friendly or hostile.
Con
Consider — Using /consider to check a mob's level relative to yours and its faction.
OOM
Out of Mana — When a caster has no mana left to cast spells.
Med
Meditate — Sitting to regenerate mana faster. Requires the Meditation skill.
LD
Link Dead — When a player's connection drops, leaving their character standing in-game.
AFK
Away From Keyboard — Player is not at their computer.
LFG
Looking for Group — Player is seeking a group to join.
LFM
Looking for More — A group is looking for additional members.
